Computer Forensics Expert in Seville: Andalusia Coverage

Andalusia is the second-largest autonomous community in Spain by volume of court proceedings, and Seville is home to the courts with the most civil and commercial activity in the region. Forenlab provides computer forensics expert services in Seville with in-person coverage across all of western Andalusia and remote expert work for law firms in the rest of the region.

Typical cases in Seville

Given the economic profile of Seville and its metropolitan area, the computer expert engagements we are asked for most often are:

  • Bank claims — online fraud, tampering with transactions, online banking problems.
  • Family disputes involving digital evidence — divorces with misuse of accounts, custody cases involving device review.
  • Labor disputes — dismissals backed by digital evidence, misuse of company resources.
  • Criminal cases for digital scams — phishing aimed at individuals, bank impersonation.

In-person coverage in western Andalusia

Forenlab attends in person, with 48 hours’ notice, the following judicial districts:

  • Seville city and metropolitan area — Dos Hermanas, Alcalá de Guadaíra, Mairena del Aljarafe, La Rinconada, San Juan de Aznalfarache.
  • Province of Huelva — Huelva city, Aljaraque, Lepe, Ayamonte.
  • Province of Cadiz — Cadiz city, Jerez, El Puerto de Santa María, San Fernando, Algeciras, La Línea.
  • Province of Cordoba — Cordoba city, Lucena, Montilla, Priego.
  • Province of Malaga (western Andalusia) — Malaga city, Marbella, Estepona, Fuengirola, Antequera.

For specific courts outside these hubs, we can arrange travel ad hoc. See full coverage in Spain.

When to choose an in-person expert vs. a remote one

In Andalusia the mixed model is common: the first meeting and the acquisition of evidence take place in person in Seville, and the subsequent analysis is carried out in the Forenlab laboratory. Ratification in court is covered by the expert traveling on the day of the trial.

This allows you to cut costs without sacrificing quality: the client pays for a single trip (the acquisition) and obtains a complete report with a procedurally robust methodology.

More on the methodology: digital chain of custody.

Typical cases in Seville courts

Bank claims

Seville has traditionally had a high level of banking litigation. The cases we handle usually follow a pattern:

  1. An individual or small business detects transactions they do not recognize.
  2. The bank refuses to accept liability, alleging “negligence”.
  3. Forenlab analyzes the client’s devices and demonstrates the absence of malware or third-party intervention or, alternatively, identifies the attack vector for which the client is not responsible.
  4. The lawyer uses the report for a civil claim plus a simultaneous criminal complaint.

Corporate disputes in a family business

A company with two partners. One of them leaves and takes client lists and source code with him. Three months later the departing partner has a direct competitor operating with the same client portfolio. Forenlab analyzes:

  • CRM access logs for the 6 months before the departure.
  • File transfers to USB drives on the partner’s computers.
  • Traceability of corporate email (messages sent to personal accounts).

The expert report is the basis for the civil lawsuit plus an injunction ordering the cessation of activity.

Custody and digital evidence

In family proceedings it is increasingly common to submit digital evidence: mobile phone locations, WhatsApp records, social media images. The problem is that much of this evidence is submitted improperly (uncertified screenshots, altered captures) and is challenged.

More on this point: WhatsApp screenshots as court evidence.

Indicative rates

In Andalusia, rates are in line with the national average, with a travel surcharge for courts outside the Seville metropolitan area:

  • In-person evidence acquisition in Seville city: included in the base quote.
  • Acquisition outside the metropolitan area: €80–150 travel surcharge.
  • Court appearance outside Seville city: €200–400 surcharge.

For details of the base rates see: how much a computer forensics expert costs.

Coordination with Andalusian law firms

Forenlab regularly works with Seville law firms on an on-call basis: the firm contacts us at the claim stage, we produce a preliminary opinion with no commitment to assess the technical strength of the evidence, and only if the case is viable do we proceed with the formal expert report.

This practice reduces risk for the end client: if the digital evidence does not hold up technically, the lawyer knows before filing the claim.
